Dick Bernard to the rescue.
Tarpon Cove resident Dick Bernard was working on his boat renovation (as he always is)
when a young man approached in distress. He was visiting here and had been fishing south
of the marina in the mangroves. He had a backpack with a filet knife that became
unsheathed and caused a serious cut from his wrist to his elbow. Dick was able to patch
him up for the trip to the hospital and 52 stitches with paper towels and duct tape.
Dick said it was fortunate because Joanne had brought the roll of towels to clean the boat and
he just brought the tape for some onboard repairs. Together they were able to use the
paper towels as gauze and the tape to secure the injury for the trip to the hospital.
We salute Dick for his help in this serious event. Well done Captain Dick!
